Once a ground ball gets to the outfield, it’s going to be a base hit— it’s just a matter of how many bases the batter/runner is going to get. Most of the time, it’ll only be a single base, but with a combination of speed plus good luck (in terms of where the ball winds up), the batter can make their way to second, and possibly beyond— though this also increases the chances that the defense will try to make a play on the runner.
